How it works

How it works

Mode of action

Adult female parasitic wasps parasitize nymphs of the fourth and fifth instar of psyllid. Additionaly, host feeding also occurs.

Appearance

  • The eggs of the parasitoid are covered with a mucilaginous substance and are attached to the body wall of the psyllid nymph.
  • The larvae are ecoparasitic and are located under the nymph of the host.
  • Adults have a black body, pale wings, and yellowish jointed legs. Males measure between 0.4 and 0.6 mm in lenght, with elongated antennae with long, sparse hairs. Famales are 0.5-2.0mm long, with club-shaped antennae with numerous short hairs.

Visual effect

Parasitized nymphs of the psyllid become reddish-brown. Adult wasps leave the nymphs via a round hole.
